ABI's One-Year Anniversary Program on BAPCPA
October 16, 2006
Georgetown University Law Center, Washington, DC

Register now for this American Bankruptcy Institute program analyzing the
effects of the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of
2005 (BAPCPA). Congress enacted the most sweeping reform of the federal
bankruptcy laws over the last 25 years during 2005, with most of the changes
effective for cases filed after Oct. 17, 2005. One year later, what has been
the impact of the new law on debtors, creditors and the other players in the
bankruptcy system? Is the Bankruptcy Code in better balance today as
Congress intended? What conclusions can be drawn about what is working and
what is not from the first year of reported opinions? What does the future
hold?

This day-long conference brings together the leading experts and
practitioners from the private and public sectors to assess the first-year
experience from a variety of perspectives. The program will include a
macroeconomic overview of BAPCPA, and all the major issues that have been
arising since the new law went into effect. Topics covered include an
analysis of the effects of the bill on business bankruptcies, the impact of
credit counseling agency programs, changes to attorney practices, an
analysis of case law developments and emerging issues such as the new rules.
Speakers include Dr. Teresa Sullivan (Provost, University of Michigan),
Prof. Michelle White (UC San Diego), Clifford White (Acting Director,
EOUST), Hon. Elizabeth Perris, Hon. Eugene Wedoff and Hon. Christopher
Klein.
